PSV Eindhoven will wear a special shirt on Friday night to honour club legend Coen Dillen. The match against SC Heerenveen at the Philips Stadion coincides with the centenary of the former striker's birth, as he would have turned 100 on Monday 5 October.
Dillen played for PSV between 1949 and 1961 and is best known for his record-breaking 1956/57 season. He scored 43 goals in a single Eredivisie campaign, a club record that still stands today. With him, the team also won the league title in 1951. A statue was unveiled at the stadium in his honour in 2003. The special shirts will be available for supporters to purchase from Monday.
The first-team squad sits third in the Eredivisie with 16 points from seven games. Their last five matches have yielded three wins and two defeats. After the Heerenveen fixture, an away match against NEC Nijmegen awaits on 21 November. The full fixtures list and current standings are available on the site.
The tribute shows the enduring legacy of 'Het Kanon'. His name lives on in the 'Coen Dillen-index', referenced when a striker starts a season strongly. PSV will hope to secure three points on Friday with a fitting tribute.
