PSV Eindhoven bids farewell to goalkeeper Joël Drommel after five years
PSV Eindhoven has officially bid farewell to goalkeeper Joël Drommel after five seasons at the club. The 29-year-old keeper has joined FC Twente on a permanent deal, signing a contract until mid-2030. Drommel, who spent last season on loan at Sparta Rotterdam, never secured the number one spot at PSV due to the presence of Matej Kovar and Nick Olij.
What does this mean for PSV?
With Drommel's departure, PSV is left with Kovar and Olij as their goalkeepers. The club, which won the Eredivisie last season with 74 points and a 19-point lead over Feyenoord, does not need an immediate replacement. Drommel played a key role as a backup and was praised for his professionalism and reliability.
How does Twente react?
FC Twente sees Drommel as strong competition for Lars Unnerstall. The keeper from Bussum regained his form at Sparta Rotterdam and now hopes to secure a regular spot at Twente. "Joël always conducted himself as a true professional and was a valued member of the team," said technical director Earnest Stewart.
What comes next?
PSV is now focusing on preparations for the new season, which has not yet started. The club's next match is against Twente on 14 February 2027. Jerdy Schouten is currently sidelined with an injury.
