PSV Eindhoven won 4-1 against Sparta Rotterdam thanks to a hat-trick from Sven Mijnans. The Eindhoven side fell behind early but took control and built a comfortable lead before halftime.
Sparta Rotterdam shocked PSV early when Milan Zonneveld scored in the 15th minute from an assist by Bas Kuipers. PSV responded quickly: Sven Mijnans equalised in the 23rd minute with help from Esmir Bajraktarević, before Kodai Sano made it 2-1 in the 39th minute, again assisted by Bajraktarević.
After the break, PSV continued to dominate. Mijnans scored his second in the 74th minute from a loose ball, then completed his hat-trick in the 88th minute with an assist from Lutsharel Geertruida. Armando Obispo received a yellow card in the 75th minute for a foul, as did Bruno Martins Indi of Sparta in the 30th minute.
PSV controlled the game with 76% possession and 28 shots, 10 on target, while Sparta managed only 10 shots with 6 on target. The Eindhoveners won 9 corners to Sparta’s 5 and committed fewer fouls (6 versus 3). Both goalkeepers were tested, with PSV’s making 4 saves and Sparta’s 6.
PSV’s starting lineup under head coach P. Bosz was a 4-3-3: M. Kovář in goal; S. Dest, L. Geertruida, A. Obispo and Mauro Júnior in defence; G. Til, P. Wanner and K. Sano in midfield; with E. Bajraktarević, S. Mijnans and A. Bouhamdi up front. Sparta Rotterdam lined up in a 3-4-2-1 under R. Meijer.
PSV made four substitutions at the 60th minute: Ivan Perišić for Bajraktarević, Ricardo Pepi for Til, Ruben van Bommel for Bouhamdi. Sparta made two changes at the 63rd minute (Teo Quintero León for Terho, Isaac Achmed Koroma Junior Babadi for Baas), two at the 77th minute (Noah Fernandez for Wanner, Andrej Kostić for Zonneveld) and one at the 82nd minute (Joel Ideho for Martins Indi). PSV then brought on Noah Fernandez for Wanner and Kostić for Zonneveld at 77 minutes, and Ayoni Santos for Mijnans in the 90th minute.
With this win, PSV remains second in the Eredivisie with 13 points from five games (4W-1D-0L), three points behind leaders AZ Alkmaar. The side has scored 18 goals and conceded just six this season, giving them a +12 goal difference and recent form of WWWWD. Their next fixture is an away trip to Twente, who sit third, on 2026-09-20.
