FC Bayern Munich’s honorary president, Uli Hoeness, recently expressed his admiration for Moroccan midfielder Ismael Saibari during an interview with Abendzeitung. However, his reaction to the transfer also caused a moment of confusion when he momentarily referred to the player as 'the player from Morocco' due to his unfamiliarity with the name.
‘The player from Morocco impressed me at the World Cup,’ Hoeness stated. He then admitted that he didn’t know Saibari particularly well as a player. ‘I hadn’t really noticed him before, but our people, the coach Max Eberl and Christoph Freund, raved about him in the highest terms. So we were happy to give our approval in the advisory committee,’ Hoeness added.
Saibari, who reportedly joined Bayern from PSV Eindhoven for a transfer fee of around 50 million euros, is currently recovering from a thigh injury and has started individual training at Sabener Strasse. His move to FC Bayern Munich marks a significant step in his career, with the club’s management confident about his potential after hearing high praise from their coaching staff.
