PSV Eindhoven has dominated the Eredivisie for the past three seasons, but Peter Bosz expects the championship race in 2026/27 to be much tougher. According to the coach, Ajax, under Jordi Cruyff's leadership, will pose a far greater threat. "The first year you don’t win the title comes closer. That’s clear," Bosz told Voetbal International.
What has changed at Ajax?
Bosz sees a clear shift in Ajax’s approach. The club, which previously relied heavily on its youth academy, is now focusing more on experienced players who can deliver immediately. "Ajax is doing everything to become champions. They’re no longer using youth players, but those who have already proven themselves," says Bosz. With a goal difference of +44 last season (84 scored, 40 conceded) and a 19-point lead over Feyenoord, PSV was untouchable last year. But Bosz sees that changing.
Why is Feyenoord also a threat?
In addition to Ajax, Bosz also sees Feyenoord as a serious competitor. The club replaced its coach after finishing second and qualifying for the Champions League. "Feyenoord fired the coach who finished second and still reached the Champions League. That shows they also want to aim higher," Bosz explains. PSV will have to prove itself again, especially ahead of the first match of the new season, away against Willem II on January 31, 2027.
What does this mean for PSV?
Bosz emphasizes that PSV cannot rest on past successes. "We have to do it ourselves again. Ajax and Feyenoord will challenge us much more than last year," he says. With a recent form of WWLLW and 74 points from 30 games in the last season, PSV will need to keep performing to secure a fourth consecutive title.
